Pediatric tuina: Chinese medical massage for infants and children

Tuina (pronounced tway’ nah) is a specific style of acupressure that is used for treating a wide variety of children’s health concerns, including cough, indigestion, night crying, failure-to-thrive, fever, asthma, and earache, as well as providing general preventive care.

During an initial office visit, Nancy administers a tuina treatment and teaches parents or caregivers the tuina techniques, so that they are able to continue daily therapy at home. Follow-up visits usually involve a review of tuina and the administration of an acupuncture or Acutonics® tuning-fork treatment. Acupuncture can also be used alone for the treatment of children. It is strongly recommended that caregivers purchase a basic tuina book to use as a reference (Chinese Pediatric Massage Therapy by Ya-li Fan, about $18).

AcuQuitSM for smoking cessation

AcuQuitSM for smoking cessation consists of an average of nine treatments spread out over seven weeks. Many former smokers have found the treatments to be a remarkable aid to becoming and remaining smoke-free, even when other methods have failed. The program can be very effective in minimizing or eliminating a majority of the cravings associated with quitting smoking, as well as for a one-time “boost” if cravings arise months or years after quitting.

Acupressure and Acutonics®

Acupressure and Acutonics® use finger pressure or tuning forks on acupoints, usually as an adjunct to acupuncture treatment.

Reiki and Reconnective Healing®

Reiki and Reconnective Healing® are hands-on energy healing techniques that may be incorporated into an acupuncture session.

Chinese herbal medicine

Chinese herbal formulas may occasionally be prescribed to supplement the effects of acupuncture treatment.

Ear acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, gwa sha, and electro-acupuncture

Ear acupuncture, moxibustion (warming treatment), cupping, gwa sha (scraping treatment), and electro-acupuncture are common acupuncture techniques that may be used during treatment.
